Jimmy is our Trail Master...the leader of the pack. Jimmy thinks its because he's the fastest, but little does he know that none of the rest of us wants be the first ones to take-on drunks coming around turns at a 100mph. We also have a better view when he crashes! Jimmy's been sledding since the late 1960's. His father worked for Evinrude and stocked the family with Bobcats, Norsmans, Skeeters--you name it, Jim's family had it. Years later, he was employed by OMC/Evinrude and actually tested snowmobiles for a living. What a life..."Jim, we want you to go out and beat the piss out of these Evinrude Skimmers 8 hours a day...can you handle that?" His testing happened on dirt in Butler Wisconsin as well as on the snow in the Houghton/Hancock area--Thus, he's perfectly qualified to be our trail boss since he's been going up there for over 25 years. Although, Jimmy has increased discretion with age, he's always good for an extra 5mph per bar stop. A few years back, that was always good for a late-day average speed of 80mph plus and a mighty-fine hangover each morning. In all, Jimmy's forgotten more ways that he's wrecked sleds than most of us will ever experience. He's logged more hours and miles than any of us ever will and he's the first one you want there when there's trouble--and the last one you want there when there's an argument about sledding. So what's up with the "Head-Cheesehead?" Jimmy was the guy that got us involved with the Canadian Hell Riders. This group of 138 sleds is almost exclusively 100% pure Canadian. There's been other Americans on the trip but our group--led by Jimmy--is the largest, most consistent, and longest-standing American group. Just like the rest of the world, when the Canadians found out that our group is from Wisconsin, walla: "The Cheesehead Guys" were created. Jimmy's the leader...thus The Head-Cheesehead. Jimmy still works for OMC, which is owned by Bombardier. Can you guess what brand he drives? Yup, he's a Ski-Dooer and he's spoiled rotten with a new ride every 1-2 seasons. Jimmy's spirit, organization skills and motivation to embrace the sport is contageous and keeps our group together and growing. |
